Transfer Stations

Please note: At Alert Level 2, access to the Frankton and Wanaka Transfer Stations will continue to be managed via an online booking system. The booking hours for both facilities will be 8:00am - 4:40pm, Monday to Sunday (4:40-5:00pm will be the last bookable slot). The booking system has been developed to keep both staff and users of the facilities safe. We are asking users to adhere to the booking system to prevent our facilities from becoming overwhelmed.

Both facilities will have social distancing and contact tracing restrictions in place. We ask that users of these facilities be patient and follow the instructions of staff onsite at all times.

Alert Level 2 Bookings

Under Alert Level 2 bookings are required when using our Transfer Stations. Please ensure you read our terms and conditions before booking for either location.

    • To operate under the best practice guidelines for appropriate social distancing and contact tracing, you will need a booking to access the Transfer Stations.

    • You may be turned away if you fail to arrive within your allotted time, or you do not have a booking.

    • The vehicle registration you book with is the vehicle that you must bring to the facility, this is stipulated for contract tracing purposes.

    • The name and phone number you register with is the person who will be visiting the facility, this is stipulated for contract tracing purposes.

    • To keep yourself and the staff onsite safe, please follow instructions at all times. This includes adhering to all existing site safety requirements and signage such as the posted 10kph speed limit.

    • Please endeavour to come alone at your allotted time.  If you must bring others (including children) with you, they must remain in the vehicle at all times.

    • There will be restrictions in place to maintain social distancing, including limiting areas of access.

    • To maintain social distancing protocols, you must be able to safely unload your materials into the pit without assistance from others onsite.

    • Payment must be made at the time, either using your account if you have one, or paywave.  No cash or non-contactless card payment options will be available.

    • Areas for diversion of items such as green waste, scrap metal, e-waste and hazardous goods will be accessible during Alert Level 2

    • The NZ COVID Tracer QR code poster will be on display. Everyone must keep a record of where they have been when visiting certain places so contact tracing can happen quickly.

    • It is recommended you wear a face covering as per Alert Level 2 requirements.

    • The public recycling drop off area at the Wakatipu Recycling Centre (Materials Recovery Facility) and the onsite reuse shop remains closed during Alert Level 2.

There are two transfer stations in our district that accept and treat waste before bringing it to Victoria Flats landfill or a recycling facility. Both facilities are operated by Waste Management NZ on behalf of QLDC.

Waste collectors and the public can bring waste items not suitable for kerbside collection to transfer stations.

Please note that large loads (for example truckloads or large skip bins) or loads unable to be processed through the compactor, being presented for disposal at our Transfer Stations will be considered on a case by case basis and may be rejected.  If this occurs, our transfer station operators will discuss other disposal options with you.

These charges are in effect as of Thursday 1 July, 2021, and are inclusive of GST.  Please note we do not accept cash, payment is by card or account only.
