QLDC acknowledges passing of former Councillor John MacDonald

Like many of you around the district, everyone at QLDC is deeply saddened by the passing at the weekend of former Councillor John MacDonald.

JOHN MACDONALD

Like many of you around the district, everyone at QLDC is deeply saddened by the passing at the weekend of former Councillor John MacDonald. John was first elected in 2016 and served his local community as a councillor for more than four years before stepping down on health grounds in March 2021.

Mayor Glyn Lewers paid tribute to John’s time on Council: “I know my cohort of new Councillors in 2019 all looked up to John, not only because of his experience and governance skills but also because of the way he treated people and the issues he worked for such as mental health and the Whakatipu Community Hub. I always had huge respect for him and was sorry to see him retire from QLDC, albeit to carry on working tirelessly for the good of the community. He’ll be missed by so many people and I’d like to extend my sympathies to his family, friends and anyone who shares the same fond memories that I do.”

We’ll be sharing a fuller tribute to John soon.
