Some operations at Frankton Golf Centre affected after fire

After a fire at Frankton Golf Centre (FGC) on Saturday 13 December affected some facilities, the driving range will be closed until further notice. The course itself remain open.

FGC members were informed on the evening of the fire, and a message was posted to the general public on QLDC's Facebook pages (@QLDCinfo and @QLDCSportRec).

While FENZ carries out its investigation, QLDC is not in position to provide any further comment about the incident other than operational updates for members, players and the wider community. These will be shared direct to members as well as via our website (www.qldc.govt.nz/recreation/golf) and Facebook as above.

What’s happened at Frankton Golf Centre?

There was a fire at Frankton Golf Centre (FGC) early evening on Saturday 13 December. Staff called emergency services who attended, extinguished the fire and secured the affected area.

Was anybody hurt?

No.

Can I still play golf?

Yes – the driving range and golf shop will be closed until further notice, but the nine-hole course remains OPEN and you can turn up, pay online and play.

Who own’s FGC?

It’s a community facility owned and managed by Queenstown Lakes District Council. QLDC has a management agreement with Inspire Golf to deliver some services on behalf of the Council.

Will Frankton Golf Centre be rebuilt?

Any future decisions about the centre will be made by Full Council at the appropriate time.
